Melissa on the Issues Facing Round Rock

“Ranked as one of the best places to live in the nation, Round Rock is nationally recognized as a thriving community rich in diversity and economic opportunity. My desire to serve on the Council is to ensure we maintain Round Rock’s character.  By working hand in hand, our families grow stronger, our neighborhoods prosper, and Round Rock will continue to be a place we can all be proud to call home.”

Public Safety

Our police and firefighters work hard to keep our community safe, and they must have the tools to do their jobs. Melissa believes in ensuring Round Rock is fully staffed with highly qualified first responders, well equipped, and paid a competitive wage.

Being married to a Police Officer for 24 years, she understands how important it is for City staff, Elected Officials, and First Responders to work together to keep the crime rate low and the citizens of Round Rock safe. One reason Melissa is running is to build upon the formed relationships between our first responders and city council, to ensure the safety of our community and those who protect and serve. First responders are a part of our community and should know they are supported and resources are made available when needed. Public safety is Melissa’s top priority.

Transportation

Round Rock was named on the Today Show as the best place to live based on work/life balance, schools, community, outdoor life, cost of living, and job security. With that success comes population growth and traffic congestion.

City Leaders have developed traffic plans to avoid mistakes other cities have made of not addressing future transportation issues and providing traffic congestion relief. Melissa will work to address maintaining and improving roadways and secure the state and federal funding needed. Being a resident for 18 years, Melissa wants to maintain the quality-of-life residents expect.

Smart Growth

Prior leadership had the foresight to encourage large businesses like Dell, Round Rock Express, and Kalahari to reside in Round Rock helping reduce the property tax burden. Melissa wants to continue those efforts by attracting business that provide new, high paying jobs and bring additional revenue to Round Rock.

Melissa is committed to working with the Chamber, neighborhoods, local businesses, and nonprofits to meet the needs of our community. She’s committed to a long-term strategic plan that encourages securing our city’s future infrastructure needs such as drinking water and other utilities.

Property Taxes

Property taxes are a burden on all of us including Melissa. She is committed to providing high quality services expected by all citizens of Round Rock while being efficient with your tax dollars and scrutinizing every tax dollar spent.

Education

Melissa is a strong believer that education serves as the foundation for a thriving city. Having three kids attend public schools in Round Rock, she understands the importance of having quality facilities and qualified Teachers for our students to prosper in their learning environment. Melissa is committed to partnering with parents, school leaders, and administrators to ensure our schools are top-rated. Melissa also wants to grow our local college and university campuses to meet local workforce demands.
